1978 - 1979 Raced quarter midgets, wrenched by Dad - Ray Carter
1990 Jimmy and his Dad raced a Nova in 'bracket racing' on the 1/4 mile strip at Ashcroft BC for 1 season, and won at least 1 race
1992 - 1994 In 1992, Jimmy and his Dad returned to racing, running the #14 Minisprint at Deming, Hanegan and Mission Speedways
* Season Point Champion at all 3 tracks in 2nd season
* Won the 3 day Clay Cup Championship in 2nd season
1994 Completed Jimmy Sills' sprint car driving school in Marysville, CA
1995 * drove a 360 J&J for Rudeen Racing in 3 race events
* track owner removed the 'rookie ribbons' after just 2 races
1996 Drove a 360 for Jack and Joy Rose, at 2 events
* 1 of those events was the 3 day "Thunder In The Valley" with a field of over 60 sprinters
